THE HAYNE CASE

A RECALCITRANT WITNESS. GLADYS BATCHELOR SENTENCED FOR CONTEMPT, (Per United Preat Association.) WELLINGTON, May 19. In the case against James Reynolds Hayne and Norman Neylon, of Dunedin, charged with unlawfully using an instrument, the principal witness for the Crown, Gladys Batchelor, again persisted in refusing to give evidence. Mr Justice Herdman adjudged her guilty of contempt of Court and sentenced her to nine months' improsonment without hard labour. The case against Hayne and Neylon was further adjourned till the next sittings of the Supreme Court.
