Leigh Hunt has been re-elected president of the Wellington Sub-Provineiai Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, and Mr J. M. Whiteman, vice-presi-dent. A Dunedin Press Association message records the death of Mrs Kineton Parkoa. During the war period in England she did important work in helping to‘organise the Women’s Emergency Corps. Since coming to New Zealand she lectured frequently in the interests of temperance. Mr T. O’Byrne, who has been acting M an assessor for the Auckland Timber Workers’ Union in their dispute with the en»* ployers before the Conciliation Council, r*turned to Invercargill last night. A full agreement was reached at the conference. The Bishop of Nelson, has received newt that the Rev. Canon Hughes, BA., Vicar of St. Peter’s, Melbourne, has been elected to the Bishopric of Rockhampton, Queensland. The Bishop-elect was educated at Trinity College within the University of Melbourne. The college has now produced seven bishops for the Anglican Church is Australasia, viz., Bishop Green (late of Ballarat), Bishop Stretch (late Bishoo of Newcastle, N.S.W.), and the present Biioopp of Wangaratta, Bathurst, Nelson, Newcastle, and Rockhampton. The new Bishop is a brother of Brigadier-General Hughe* of the A.I.F. Yesterday morning a pleasant little ceremony took place at the office of the JfMP Zealand Shipping Company at Bluff when the members of the Southland staffs, both office and store, assembled to bid farewell to Mr R. C. Skip age, who leaves to-day to take up the position of local agent for the company at Lyttelton. Mr Hallamore, the local manager, in a few well chosen remarks expressed his regret at Mr Skipage’s departure from Southland but congratulated him on his promotion. As a small token of seteem he handed the departing officer • pocket wallet and a piece of Doulton were for Mrs Skipage and all combined in wishing the guest every success and all prosperity in his new position. The death occurred at Onehungs o» Thursday of Mr John Arthur Cramoad, is his 91st year. Mr Cramond was bora la London in the year 1830. Aa a young m*a he emigrated to South Australia, arriving at Adelaide in 1849 in bis father’s ehip, the Brightman, commanded by Captain Cowley. He was engaged in business there for a number of years. In 1870 he arrived in Auckland, and made his home in New Zealand from then to the time of his death. After being in the employ of Messrs Henderson and Macfarlane for a time ho catered the service of the Union Steam Ship Company many years ago, and remained in that employ until 1600, when he retired from active business. He is survived by a widow, three sons and three daughters, and a number of grandchildren and great-grand, children. One of his grandsons is at preaant Mayor of Adelaide. Signor Alfred P. Truda, the well-known flaute virtuoso, who has resided in New Zealand for the past twelve years, will leave by the Manuka for Sydney to-day, whera he will join the Orsova, sailing for Europe ou May 29. Signor Truda will first go to Milan, where he will study the latest idea* in voice production under the supreme masters of the Bclcanto School. During his residence here Signor Truda has specialised, and dedicated himself solely to the school for the flaute. Signor Truda’s musical exnerience is a fairly wide one, he having been through every branch of the profession, from the theatre orchestra to the symphony orchestra, and from pantomime to grand opera. As a boy of twelve at college ha wee picked from the class to sing in the juvenile chorus of the operas “Gioconda" and “Pro* feo Velato.” These operas were produced in the Municipal Theatre at Salerno, where Enrico Caruso at that time was the principal tenor. The death occurred at the Auckland Military Hospital last Wednesday morning of Staff-Sergeant M. McLennan, son of Mrs EL Andrews, of Mount Albert. Staff-Sergeant McLennan, who was 37 years of age, was fighting in Mexico when war broke out, and was decorated for his services. He later enlisted in the American forces, and subsequently joined the British Tank' Corps. He was a member of the crew of the tank that carried the first American flag across the German lines. On March 22, 19X8, the day after the great German drive the tank, with the American flag attached to it, crossed "No Man’s Land” and attacked the German trenches. Despite heavy firs the lank returned safely to the British line* the only damage sustained being to the flag, which contained XI bullet holee. Staff-Ber-geant McLennan subsequently returned the nag to Ukiah, California, where it was presented to him when he enlisted, and it is prized to-day as a valuable war souvenir. In 19X8, Staff-Sergeant McLennan was invalided to New Zealand, and has been an inmate of the Military Hospital since then. Tlie funeral will take place at the Wats karaka cemetery" this afternoon.
