Hokitika, Dec. 27. The exhibition has been opened successfully. Judge Harvey delivered the inauguration address. Chbistchubch, Dec. '2.7. At the Kaiapoi regatta yesterday the weather was fine and the attendance large. The races were spoiled, however, by a flood in the river. The Kaiapoi Club won the Champion four-oared race. A boy, seven years of age, was drowned by the capsizing: of a boat containing his father, James Bean, and two brothers. The grain market is almost at a stand still. Wheat is not quoted; oati, 2s 4 to 2s 6d ; flour, £13 to £14. Napier, Dec. 30. The Chile has arrived from London *fter a passage of 107 days, with Government immigrants and Brogden'a navvies, all well. The Herald publishes a letter from the Rev. Mr Barclay, Immigration Agent, in which he complains of statements made by the Hon. Mr Waterhouse ia the Legislative Council about him.
