CANTERBURY.
The following are the latest market reports from Christchurch : — A fair demand has been experienced for old wheat at 4a 4d to 4s 6d ; the latter figure is only given for completion of shipments. The millers have reduced their price for flour, as they usually do at this season — -first brands being quoted at £12. New oats are already being offered, but the low price which is at present ruling — Is lC£d to 2s 0£d — prevents transactions. Old oats have been placed during the week at 2s 3d to 2s 4£d. Several account sales of butter have been received by the last mail, at quotations ranging from 50s to 68s ; and it is generally believed by several of the leading London brokers that an important and increasing business will be done in this staple. Sales have transpired during the week at 4d to 4gd. Weighty halfrbred fat wethera brought from 8s to 10s per head ; good-conditioned'Jialf-bred store wethers and ewes, 6a 9d and 6s 3d ; prime quality fat merino wethers, 6s 6d and 7s ; do do ewes, 5s 6d ; well-conditioned merino ewes and wethers, 4s ; 150 merino ewes, with 151 half-bred Leicester lambs, sold at 3s 6d per head, all the lambs counted. Quotation for mutton, lid to lfd per 3b. Several pens of good quality lat cows and steers sold at from £5 to £5 15s per head — averaging 15s to 16s per lOOlbs ; four-year-old large-framed store steers, in superior condition, £6 10s ; two and three-year-old do, 4.3 2s tid lo
