D. Macboem, Auctioneer, reports : — The sale at Wallacetown on Wednesday was well attended, especially towards the afternoon, and as it was found necessary (out of respect to an old settler) to postpone the hour of commencement till 1.30 p.m., there was a good muster, especially of those attracted by the yarding of unbroken horse stock. The first draft of hones (principally colts and fillies), belonging to Mr Richardson, got by Sultan and Will o' the Wisp, commanded very fair rates, and the bidding was brisk. Being without reserve, all were offered and sold, the average being £7 per head.. A few hacks afterwards changed hands at £9 to £11, but the bidding then was languid. A large mob of cattle, which should have been forward, having taken to the bush, injured the sale of this claws of stock. Many intending buyen left on the completion of the horse sale, and were it not certain that every effort had been made to bring the cattle to market, there would have been good grounds for dissatisfaction om the part of purchasers coming from a distance. Had the yards been fuller, improved rates would, I feel sure, have prevailed, as there ia a growing inclination to speculate in cattle. I sold a mob mixed (calves given in) at £3 10s per head ; cows, with calves at foot, at £4 10s to £5 15s ; yearling steers at 255. Taken as a whole, transactions were satisfactory. Invercargill, 21st July, 1870.
