She EntH&^Titncsrot- the 18th reports :— ■— The transactions in the grain market continue light, bnt there are now shipments making to a small extent from this province, and some beneficial effect may b» felt in case the next advices . from Melbourne confirm the slightly improved state of that market. The parcels of good wheat coming forward from the growers are small, and ' bat few oats are offering ; probably wheat is scarce, bat oats are kept back by growers. The demand for floor is moderately good, the value standing as last quoted — viz., £JLO 10s to £11. The quotations made by grain dealers are — wheats, 3s 9d to 4s ; barley, 3s 3d to 3s 6d j oats, 2s 6d to 2s 7d ; bran, £4 10s. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. report for the week ending 16th July, 1870, as follows :— Fat Cattle.— The number in has been slightly in excess of requirements. 75 head were yarded «nd fetched— for first qualify— lßs to 20s per lOOlbs ; middling ditto, 15s to 17s 6d. Fat Sheep. — One small mixed draft of merinos and half-breds came to hand, which realised 8s 3d to 8s 6d per head. We quote prime half-bred wethers 2sd to 2fd per lb ; merino ditto, 2£d to 2J<L . Store Cattle.— No transactions. Store Sheep.— There is a good enquiry, especially for half-breds ; but holders' limits check transactions. Horses.— We yarded a draft of 30 head of light and inferior animals ex Airedale, from Wellington, which we quitted at from £4 10s to £12 each. Good draught horses are in request, at from £35 to £45 ; middling ditto, £25 to £30. first-class hacks and light harness horses are worth £15 to £20 ; inferior ditto are dull of sale at £5 to £10. Grain. — Oats are in fair demand at 2s 6d to 2s 7d per bushel, at which rates we have placed about SOD bags. Barley, inactive. For wheat there is a little more enquiry, at 3s 9d to 4s for new crop, and 4s 3d for old. The Oamarv Times of the 15th inst. reports:— Since our last issue, few local sales have been made, and prices remain unchanged — flour still being quoted at £10 to £10 10s. Considerable shipments of grain are in progress, per Swordfiah and Nightingale ; and the Huon Belle left with a cargo of flour, meal, and oats yesterday, for Hokitika, shipped by Messrs Anderson and Mowat.
