According to the Cromwell Argus, Mr Simpson, District Eoad Engineer, has been instructed: to proceed without-.delay to the head of Lake Wakatip, and thence to Lake M'Kerrow, near Martin's Bay, for the purpose- of examining the line of. route recently traversed by Mr M'Kerrow, and of reporting to the Chief Engineer updn the probable cost of a horse-track to the West Coast. Mr Simpson and his assistants left Cromwell on Tuesday last, and it is expected they will be ab- . sent for three or four weeks. ; We have to remind parties desirous 'of attending, that the anniversary soiree of the Sons of Temperance Society takes place in the Exchange Hall, this evening, at ■ half-past six o'clock. ■••■■■' A movement has been set on foot in Auckland for the purpose of establishing a ragged school in that city;
