The Argus of the 28th ult. reports : — There has been little appearance of business in the import markets to-day. Trade parcels of flour are quitted at £11 5s to £11 15s, but the demsfad is heavy and listless in the extreme. Wheat is much wanted. Everything that comes forward meets with a ready sale at 5s to 5s 2d. Maize is dull at 3s 6d to 3s 7d. There are no buyers now but for the supply of immediate wants, the fact of new maize being advised having had the effecG of keeping purchasers back, and checking any advance in price. The first shipment is expected by Monday's steamer. Oats maintain a somewhat depressed aspect. Buyers operate with great caution, and the quantity coming to market amply meets the wants of the trade. Good to fair samples of Victorian are quitted at 3s 3d to 3s 6d. Candles are barely so Btrong ; holders generally ask lid ; but we have Been of late some indication of a desire to accept of a trifle under this quotation, and sales are even bo reported. Kerosene oil on the other hand is very firm, and buyers are readily met with for any parcels placed on the market. We hear of a line of 2,0C0 cases Devoe'a Brilliant having changed hands at a very full figure. A fanparcel of Double Anchor geneva has been placed t close on 51s, duty paid.
