Messrs G-. and J. A. Noble report that since December 2 there has been only one public sale, particulars of which are given below. Prices have been fairly maintained, but owing to the Christmas holidays there has not been much animation. The. arrivals recently have been large, consisting oi ; 1543 bales flax, and 89 bales tow, per Mary Shepherd, and 417 bales per Thyatira. These •will be brought forward about January 13th next 1 . Ex Kate Waters, irom Auckland — Two D's in two diamonds, 32 bales, £45 per ton for sound ; Din diamond, 9 bales, £45 do ; no mark, 23 tales, £50 per ton bought in, since sold ; J3M, 5 bales, £38 5s per ton damaged j C&DB, 12 bales, £37 10s per ton damaged ; C&DC, 13 bales, £28 10s per ton for, the sound, bought in ; B&C, 7 bales, £26 per ton for the sound; C&DA, 7 bales tow, £19 5s per ton for the sound ; C&DB, 61 bales tow, £14 5s do do. Ex Liberator, from Sjdney — GB, 30 bales flax, withdrawn. Ex Walter Hood, from Sydney—- GB, 25 balea flax, withdrawn ; Q-B over E, 1 do, do j GJB J, 2 bales tow, withdrawn. Ex Countess of Kintore, from Auckland — WBG, 2 bales flax, £25 per ton, bought in. Ex Clodian, from Adelaide — GWL in diamond, 1 bale flax, £49 per ton. Messrs Ellis and Hale have the following upon the year's business: — About 2300 bales offered at public sale, but we had few sales during the year until about June, when there were several arrivals, which sold readily — good and fine, £37 to £40 155 ; middling and fair, £30 lus to £36 ss ; ordinary and mixed with straw, £25 to £28 , tow, £6 5s to £13 ss. Subsequently, owing to the great demand for Manilla hemp for cable making, &c., prices rapi tly advanced from £43, for fine, in October, to £52 in November ; j tow, £16 5s to £18 ss. During December, however, the market having become lower for other kinds, prices are rather easier, and our highest quotation is £45 to £50 for fine clean. There are 1500 bales advertised for sale early in January. ~
