GENERAL SUMMARY.
Lord Derby has resigned the Premiership on 25th February. Disraeli is Premier ; Lord Cairns, Lord Chancellor ; Mr G. "W. Hunt Chancellor of the Exchequer. Lennon, the traitor felon haji been sentenced to fifteen years' penal* servitude. An address to the Queen, signed by 22,600 loyal Irishmen in England, has been presented. The Scotch Reform Bill, giving only five new members, is very unpopular in Scotland. .^The Solicitor-General has been elected for Hilston. .Beresford Hope defeated Cleasby in the election for the University of Cambridge. General M'Lellan has been appointed to replace Mr Adams as the American Minister in London. The Habeas Corpus Act is to be suspended in Ireland for 12 months longer. Sir C. J. Selwyn, Q.C., M.? M has succeeded to the Lord Justiceship, which has been vacated by Sir J. Bolt. A frightful collision took place oh the North British Railway, on the 27th February, in which three men were killed and a quantity of plant destroyed. W. B. Brett, the Solicitor-General, has been Knighted ; and Mr Baggaley, Q.C., is expected to be Vice- Chancellor. The Emperor Napoleon was siezed with a violent asthmatic attack on the 26th February. His breathing became almost suspended. The crisis passed over, and his health is now as usual. The Session of Chambers, at Berlin, closed on February 29th. The King's speech expressed his conviction that peace and prosperity would prevail. The exodus from Canada has ceased. A banquet was given on the 29th February to Admiral Farragut at Genoa. Princes Cisterna, mother of Dutchess d'Aoata, died at Turin on 29th February. . Burke, and the Fenians in Warwick Gaol will he tried in London. N agle and fellow prisoners have been indicted for treason. Several houses near Cork have been attacked by Fenians. All French officers on furlough have been ordered to head-qaarters. Prince Napoleon is visiting Germany. The 'Globe' says, alarming revolts have broken out amongst the prisoners in India.
