OPEN DRAINS AND WATER HOLES.
(to the editor op the southland times). Sib, — I notice that in various parts of the town there are drains quite unprotected, and highly dangerous. The same also applies to water holes on sections that are unoccupied. I may mention as a case in point one that is at present uncovered, and which may be the cause of a serious accident, viz., on the ground formerly occupied by the Marine Hotel, near the jetty. As there are a number of sailors and others always about the jetty who are unacquainted with the locality, and who are very likely in approaching the town to take a short cut right in the track of the well, it becomes highly necessary that some steps should be taken at once to either fill up or cover the water hole in question. — Yours, &c, Pedesteias". 7th March, 1867.
