ST. JOHN'S CHURCH.

(TO THE EDITOB OP THE SOTJTHIiAND TIME 3.) Sib, — Some time since the choir of the 'Church of England gave a concert in aid of a fund for fencing the ground of St. John's Church, the result was about fifteen pounds being added for that object. I hear from a practical person that a neat fence round the Church would cost about eight pounds a chain ; surely the members would soon subscribe the amount required, if the improvements were commenced, before the work was finished too. . The Wesley an body set them an excellent example of what can be done by energy and earnestness ; even now they have commenced enlarging their already spacious Chapel, in the faith that the members will find the money by the time it is completed. It certainly is very discreditable to the members of St. John's Church that the first eclesiastical builcling erected in Invercargill, should be lying in the same state it was, seven or eight yeare ago. . With the money now in band, and a determination to have the work done and paid for, we should soon, see a dreary waste turned into a fruitful field. j I say try, and will conclude with Mr J. E. Stewart's motto on his floral design at the last flower show, " nothing venture, nothing win." — I am, &c, > Hope.
