Colonial Secretary's Office, Wellington, Feb. 17, 1868. ; Sib, — Mr Stafford having observed in some of the southern newspapers a report that the Government purposes to expend the sum of £15,000 in the reception of His Boyal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh in the Colony, has directed me to state for general information that there is no foundation for such a report, and that the Government has never proposed exceeding the amount appropriated by the Colonial Legislature for the purpose.
