Mr Jacklin, a storekeeper from the Buller, who arrived in Nelson the other day, brings' confirmatory news of the finding of a gold nugget weighing 68 ounces, on the Lyell river, a tributary of the Buller. Such, at least, is the report made by the "Colonist," which adds:— "The find was reported some tima since, but the story was vague, and it was impossible to confirm it. Mr Jacklin certifies to the circumstance, and as the nugget, without the half-crown duty, is worth exactly £255, its discovery is a lucky hit for the party who own it." There is a terrific westerly gale blowing, and an. awful sea ou. The vessels outside are dead on the lee shore. The schooner Alice parted her cable, and tried to sail across the bar, but she was struck by a sea and turned bottom npwards, completely wrecking her. The crew clung to the bowsprit, and the vessel drifted on Bhore, and they were rescued, though very much exhausted. There is immense excitement, and hundreds of people are on the beach." A new seam of coal has been discovered at Wallsend, New South Wales, at a depth of 270 feet. The coal raised from the new pit is a splendid sample, and it is believed that it will turn out to be the best seam in the district. The " Timaru Herald" reports that Mr Charles Enyvett, station owner, was found drowned in th§ Rakaia on Wednesday^
