WB DO NOT IDENTIFY OUBSELVES IN ANT WAT -WITH THB OPINIONS EXPBBSSED BT 088 COBBESFONDENTS. ' » A PROBLEM EOR SOLUTION. TO THE EDITOB OE THE SOUTHLAND IME3. Sib, — Supposing a small drain was cut from the southern extremity of the Mokomoko inlet to the Awarua Bay, and a water communication with the Estuary once made, is it not probahle that the action of the stream would ensure a navigable course from the Bluff in that direction in the course of a few moths ? Think you not that the great fall of water from the Oreti and "Waihopai rivers into the Estuary, the retarded ' egress of the water from it- by the great prevalence of westerly gales, and accumulation of sand in the* westerly mouth, and the nature of the soil, the Estuary and the Awarua Bay, together with the natural fall southward, is to ensure such a result, and would it not be desirable.— Tours, respectfully, Obseeyee. April 6th, 1866.
