INVERCARGILL ELECTION.
The nomination of candidates for the election of a member of the Provincial Council, for the above district, took place at the Court House on Priday, 6t_ April. The Eeturning Officer, at the hour appointed, opened tha proceedings in the usual form, when ' Mr John Haee proposed Mr John Munro as a candidate. Seconded by Mr W. J. Moffatt. Mr John Eoss proposed Mr George Lumsden. Seconded by Mr Eobebt Tappeb. Mr Muneo then addressed the electors at some length, explaining his political views on the subjects of most interest in the Province. Mr G-eoege Lumsden followed, and in the course of a lengthened address, waa listened to with considerable attention. The Eeturning Officer then called for a show of hands, which he declared to bejji favor of Mr Lumsden. A poll was demanded on behalf of Mr Munro. . . The polling commenced on Saturday mornng, at 9 o.' clock, and remained open until 11 o'clock, when Mr Munro retired from the contest. Mr Lumsden was therefore duly elected a member of the Provincial Council for Invercargill.
