Thb steamsliip Otago, belonging to the Intercolonial Royal Mail Company, Williani Smith, commander, arrived here on the 20th inst., at 9.10 p.m. She left Sydney (Grafton Wharf) on the 15th inst., at 5 p.m., but, through the non-arrival of the English mails, she anchored in Lavender Bay. On the following day at 9.30, the mail ateamer Madras was signalled, and arrived at 11 a.m. ; by 12.15 p.m. the Otago had the mails on board and was under weigh, passing the Heads at 12.40 p.m. On leaving, she experienced southvest winds and fine weather, the wind gradually hauling to the southward, with a heavy beam sea, and hard squalls and rain. On Tuesday the wind changed to the south-east, with heavy head sea «nd gloomy weather. Wednesday, wind veered to the southward again, weather moderating ; light southerly winds and fine weather the remainder of the passage. Made the land at 2 p.m. on the 20th, passed Cape Farewell at 4.15 p.m., and arrived off -the lighthouse, at 9.10 p.m., making the passage (allowing one and a half hour's difference of time), in -4 days 7 hours. Left Nelson for Wellington on the 22nd at 12.46 p.m., ariving at 12.45 a.m. the following day. In crossing the Straits experienced strong southerly winds and a heavy sea. Left again on the 24th at 2.15 p^m. for Port Cooper, and arrived on the 25th at 6.45 a.m. Took her departure for Port Chahners on the 26th at 1.15 p.m., and arrived there on the 27th at 8 a.m. Thb s.s. Wellington brings the following goods transhipped from the Alhambra, for Bluff Harbor : — 22 packages spiced beef, 5 cases merchandise, 1 do. seeds, 1 case merchandize, 200 bags flour, 203 packages merchandise, 2 hhds. wine, 2 qr-casks do., shipped by Boyse, Mudie and Co. Thb N. Z. S. N. Company's steamer Wellington, Captain SVancis, 5 left the Manukau on the 19th. mat., at 1. p.m,"' (having been detained 24 hours by the Government) 5 arrived at Taranaki on the 20th at 6 a.m. ; left same evening at 5 p.m, and arrived at Nelson at 8.30 a.m. on the 21st ; Uft Neleon on the 22nd at noon, and arrived at Picton 7.45 p.m. ; left Picton on tho 23rd at 4.15 ».m., and arrived at Wellington 9 a.m. ; left Wellington on the 24th at 4.15 p.m. and arrived off Lyttelton Heads at 8 a.m. on the following morning, but did not reach Lyttelton till 9.45 a.m., having to anchor for an hour in consequence of a dense fog ; left Lyttelton on the 26th at 1.15 p.m., and arrived at Port Chalmers at 8.15 a.m. Experienced moderate and .fine weather all through the trip. Left Port Chahners on the afternoon of Saturday the 29th, arriving at the Blttff at 9.30" a.m. the following day.
