Sydney, Aug. 23 The Government has decided to call for tenders iasmediately, for the construction of a telegraph line direct to Adelaide. It is estimated that it will cost £15,000. The Christopher George, schooner, which got ashore yesterday, at Woolongong, escaped without injury. Private advices have been received of shipment of 800 tons of breadstuffs at Liverpool, for Australia. Flour is quoted to-day at £22 to 24 per ton ; wheat, Bs. lOd. ; and maize, at 4s. to 4s. 6d.
