Waste Land Board Office, Invercargill, 23rd December, 1803. SAW-MILLS. AT a Meeting of the Waste Land Board, held on the Bth instant, the following Resolutions for the issue of Licenses and Regulation of Saw-Mills on Government Reserves were adopted :— 1. That the Bush Reserves be subdivided into sections of from 100 to 300 acres, the lines to be cut and the survey performed at the expense of the lessee- . 2. That competent persons be appointed to estimate the quantity of timber, per acre on each section, if deemed necessary. 3. That no timber be cut excepting pine, and none under 15 inches in diameter. 4. That an upset price be named, in accordance with the estimate, if so estimated, and the lease of the section be put up to action, at not less than 30s, in the usual manner, and from time to time, as might be found necessary. 5. That not more than 300. nor less than 100 acres be leased or sold to the same party at the same time. , * • . , 6. That the trees be felled so as to, do the least possible injury to the timber left standing. 7. That forests under lease be preserved from fire by the tenants. 8. That lessees be entitled to right Of Wty through each otter's sections, so as to have access to the highway. 9 That leases do not -exceed three years, with the addition of six months to remove machinery, &c, and the licencefee to be paid quarterly. 10. That the Bush be leased in contiguous and successive sectious. 11. That sections of 100 acres each be reserved in suitable places for handsawyers, &c. 12. That a competent man be appointed Hanger to carry out the regulations. 13. That a copy of these regulations be forwarded to His Honor the Superintendent, with a request that adequate remuneration for the Ranger be provided by the Government. Penalties.— ln the event of non-fulfilment or breach of any of the foregoing regulations, the lessee shall pay a penalty of not less than £10, or more than £100, to be recovered in a summary way, together with the forfeiture of license and plant, at the instance of the Commissioner of Crown Lands.
