MELBOURNE MARKETS.

(Argus, 20th November.)

Wool, Tallow, Hides, &c. — Messrs. Goldsbrough and Co. furnish the subjoined report : — Wool— At our sale held this day, 4,278 bales were catalogued of -which quantity we placed at auction and by priTate contract2,Blo bales, prices obtained being fully equal to late quotations. Greasy realised 9d to la 2£d ; greasy lambs, Is l^d to Is 2f d ; and fleece, Is 3d to 2s o£d. per pound. Live Stock. — Messrs Power, Rutherford & Co. furnish the annexed report:— Fat Cattle— Number in, 1,308: all taken by trade. This number being greatly in excess of our present wants, and being mostly of inferior quality, had to be cleared out at figures much lower than our last quotations, although the limited number of good useful cattle made fair prices in proportion. Best bullocks, £5 to £6 10s., second do. £4 to £5, inferior do. £2 10s. to £4, best cows £4 to £5, second do. £3 to £4. Fat Calves. — Number in, 128 head, mostly of a poor description ; prices, 15s. to 475. 6d. Fat Sheep.—Number in, 4,494 head; trade, 3,932; sent out, 562; total, 4,494. We hare sold— sß9, J. Grant's, shorn, at 135. ; 300, A. and S. Grant's, at 10s. to 11s.; 150, Stevens', at 165.; total, 1,039 bead. Best wethers, 15s. to 10s. in wool, 13b. shorn ; second do., 13s. to 14s. in wool ; ewes, ss. 10d- to 10s. 9d., shorn. Fat Lambs. — Number in, 1,913 hend; sent out, 200. Some of very good quality came in, but the larger supply precluded higher than from Bs. to 11b. being obtained. Horss MAHK.BT.— There was a considerable number oMforses brought forward daring the past week, and a f air Tunount of business was transacted;" but ■ •without .any decided improvement in prices. :A few first-class caSt-horseg -were offered, but no ; sales ..were effected; -the reserves placed by the'ewners'being far beyond present market rates. are in better request, at advancing figures. Sales during the -Week, ranged from LlB to L3O. Inferior were also in demand at L 8 to Ll2» ' There was a fair supply of useful hack* and light harness horses, most of which; found purchasers at figures fully equal to late quotations. Inquiries for horses suitable for packing were numerous, and sales were effected at L 9 to Ll4. The supply of inferior stock, is still much beyond - requirements. On Monday we sold a draft of unbroken colts and fillies; they were of a very inferior description, and only realised from L 2 to L 5 Iss. per head. Several other lots were disposed of during- the week, all of which averaged low figures.
