OREPUKI.

Last week we had a visit from Mr Crabb, who lectured on temperance. He bad a very fair audience, but I don’t think he was greatly appreciated, although he is a very good speaker. I fancy that men like him do very little good to the cause they advocate, for all their arguments are one-sided, and they make random statements which it is very hard for those outside the Temperance League to swallow. I don’t think he means to'return, so he could afford to give a loose rein to his imagination. Our prospectors have made a start, but they will be handicapped by the very rough weather we have been having. The funds available will total about £75, which must be all expended on bona fide prospecting. The Association is to be congratulated on its pluck and energy in carrying the thing through so successfully. Our resident missionary, Mr Hain, has been “ off colour” lately, and has taken a trip to Sydney for the benefit of his health, which we all sincerely hope may do him good. His wife goes with him. However, his absence is not so much felt as one would suppose, for we have lots of young fellows here who have no scruples or diffidence in ascending the pulpit and assuming the role of parson. Such free and easy methods of carrying on the business of the Church are not conducive to reverential awe and respect that should characterise the services of the Presbyterian Church.
