WEST PLAINS.

On Wednesday evening, 3rd Oct., the members of the West Plains Quadrille Assembly held a very successful ball in Mr T. MacDonald’s barn, which was kindly lent for the purpose. The committee had the building nicely decorated, issued many invitations, and did all that was possible to make the affair a success. Fully 45 couples rose to the grand march at 8.30 p.m. Splendid music was played by Messrs Mclllwrick and Simpson (violins), McLeod (bagpipes), and Kearney (accordeon). .Refreshments were supplied by Mr M’Farlane in first-class style. Mr J. M’Pherson as M.C. was the right man in the right place. All the ladies were very tastily attired, but a description of their costumes is not in my line. Songs were given at intervals by Mrs M’Pherson, Miss Annie Whyte, and Miss Peters, and Messrs McLeod, Kearney, Macdonald, and Murray. Before dispersing hearty votes of thanks were accorded Mr and Mrs Macdonald and the musicians, and just as the sun was rising the dancers were to be seen homeward bound, after having spent a very enjoyable night.
