The J. G. Ward Farmers’ Association of N.Z., Ltd., report having held their regular fortnightly stock sale at the Gore yards on Tuesday, 26th inst. The entry of sheep was a fair one for the season, the greater portion being hoggets of an inferior quality. The attendance was large, and bidding up to a certain limit fairly spirited, but through scarcity of feed in the district prices were rather below what vendors expected. Many however, through scarcity of feed, had to part with hoggets which will soon lie worth considerably more money. Our entry consis: e;l of 900 sheep, which we cleared at from 12s 7d for 120 prime hoggets, being top price, to Bs, for 530 small low-conditioned. Others we cleared at 9s 3d, and a pen of small culls at 3s 9d each ; 100 small 2-tooth wethers at 10s 6d. Cattle —Only a small entry forward, mostly old cows and young cattle in low condition. These all sold at late ruling prices and full value. Horse Market —On Saturday, we had again a large entry, including a shipment of draughts by Mr Ross from Victoria. These were nearly all young, active, good sorts, fh for all farm work, and in prime condition, having landed without a scratch. For these the competition was keen at from £34, £3l, £26, to £22 10s, and for a pair of chestnut colts £59. Other horses sold at from £32 to £l6 eaca for best sorts, and old stagers at £lO to £5 each. Hacks of good quality and light harness sorts are in demand, and young active and upstanding horses of this class would find ready sale.
