OREPUKI. Orepuki has been visited by a very fair specimen of the old-time Aviliter. We have had a fall of suoav for the first time for five years. It did not lie very long on the fiats, but the hills arc avcll covered, and Avill remain so till summer. Frost has set in again, but mildly, Avhich is fortunate, as nothing dries up the Avatcr like hard frosts. Everybody is busy here uoav, as water is plentiful for the mines, and hush felling is to be had in any quantity up Waiau way. There are a great many strangers passing through Oraqmki just now en roiile. for Waiau, Avherc several large felling contracts have just been let. I hear that an enterprising firm has acquired a piece of land near the railway station for the purpose of erecting a dairy factory. The district has been canvassed for coavs, and I suppose it Avas satisfactory. The carpenters have commenced operations at the school, but OAving to the very bad av cather little progress lias as yet been made. Pending the removal and fitting up of the buildings, school is being carried on in Sorrenseii’s Hall. The Mutual Improvement Society intend to give a social on Monday Aveek, to try and Avork up interest in the matter, which seems at present rather slack.
