H. Carswell and Co. report for the week ending 19th May. as follows : We held ur regular weekly sale of stock in the Invercargill yards on Tuesday. The entries were fails’ large for the time of year, and the sale as”a whole was much brisker than previous sales. A number of extra prime quality fat cattle were forward, for which competition was brisk. Fat Sheep.—4ol penned, but the quality was not particularly good. However, prices were satisfactory. There is no doubt that extra prime mutton would bring extreme value in the yards at present as few have been offering for some time, the best mutton going straight to one or other of the freezing works. Lines of light wethers and maiden ewes sold 4 up to 15s ; aged ewes from IBs to 14s 6d for best, lighter from 11s 9d to 12s 6d. Fat Cattle.—69 penned. The quality on the whole was particularly good, some particularly prime heavy cows being forward and selling at for best at from £7 10s to £9 per head; lighter at frcm £5 10s to £6 os ; prime heavy heifers at from £6 to £7 10s; prime heavy bullocks at from £7 10s to £8 15s; lighter at from £6 5s to £7. We sold 48 head at quotations, and"quote extra prime quality ' at from 22s to 24s per 100 lb; lighter at from 18s to 20s per lb. Store Sheep.—2B24 penned. We sold small framed two-tooth wethers at from 11s 6d to 11s 9d ; two-tooth ewes and wethers mixed ot from 10s 7d to 11s 3d lines of aged ewes at from 7s to 7s 6d; old culls at from 2s 6d to 3s ; merino wethers sold at up to 4s 6d. We sold 685 of various sorts at the above .quotations. Store Cattle. —8 penned. We sold yearling \ heifers at up to £2, dairy heifers at from £3 I to £3 17s 6d, We sold 7 head at quotations,
and could have placed any number of stores at satisfactory prices had they been forward. On Wednesday last, we held a sale of stock in the Wairio' Yards. ■ The attendance of graziers and others was good, and the sale went off briskly. The entry was small, only about 2000 sheep being forward. Pens of two-tooth. crossbred wethers, partly fat, sold at up to 13s 8d; small-framed wethers at from 9s 9d to 10s 6d; well-woolled crossbred lambs at from 9s 6d to 10s 3d; full-mouthed merino ewes at from 3s 9d to 4 s Id; merino culls at up to 2s.
