Mataura.
Threshing operations are finished in this district, and mills are being housed for the winter. The refrigerating works are at present freezing 500 sheep a day. Footballers are taking advantage of the moonlight nights, and going in for vigorous training. On Saturday there was a very good turn out, and some very fast play was indulged in. Two new shops are being erected in Bridge street by Mr Mair for Messrs Mac Gibbon and Sons. We are to have a saddler and a barber settle in our midst. The latter will be a great boon, as we have had to pay periodical visits to Gore to have our figureheads attended to or submit to the tender mercies of some amateur. Onr great want here is a medical man, as the nearest doctor is eight miles away. It is true we have visits from doctors from Gore and Wyndham,'yet we should feel more comfortable if we had a resident doctor. On Thursday night Mr J. W. Foley played to a very fair house. As an individual entertainer Mr Foley is perhaps one of the best we have seen.
