A BIG FAMILY PARTY.
DINING OR NEW ZEALAND MUTTON.
The Rev. Mr Taylor, of St. Paul’s Wesleyan church, has clone something to spread the fame of New Zealand frozen mutton. Prom the Rochdale Observer we learn that on Saturday, 11th of March, a family gatheringhaving' more than ordinary interest was held at Lowerplace. Some few weeks ago Mr Bamford received a letter from his brother-in-law, the Rev. Robert Taylor, of Deveron street, Invercargill, Idew Zealand, in which he was informed that the frozen carcase of a sheep had been consigned to him. On Thursday the sheep was delivered at Mr Bamford’s residence. News of the arrival of the sheep having reached Mr Taylor’s brothers,
it was agreed to have a family dinner party on Saturday, at which the quality of the mutton should be ascertained. By the kindness of the trustees’ steward, the gathering was held in the large vestry of the Lowerplace U.M.F.C., and was attended by the following : —Mr and Mrs B. Taylor and son, Mr and Mrs S. Taylor-and family, Mr and Mrs J. Bamford and family, Mr and Mrs R. Wild and three sons, Mrs Joseph Taylor and son (Oldham), Mr John Wild, Mrs Peate, Mrs Schofield, Mrs ' Barton, Mr JSTuttall, Mr and Mrs Thomas Teden, Miss Taylor, Miss Howarth, Mr and Mrs W. H. Whitehead, 'Miss Turner, Miss Clegg, Mrs Twigg, and the Rev. W. H. Brooks. But for a previous engagement the Mayor, an old friend of Mr Taylor’s, would have been present. Ample justice havingbeen done to the mutton, and its quality declared first-rate, the Rev. W. H. Brooks, in a short speech, spoke to the special character of the gathering, and to the desirability of cultivating and maintaining a true family feeling’. He was sure no one would rejoice over their gatheaing more than would the sender of the sheep when he heard of it. Mr B. Taylor and Mr S. Taylor also made-a few remarks. After the repast most of the company spent a social eveningtogether, talking of old times and of the absent ones in their far-off home.
