OTAUTAU.

• In spite of the changeable weather, the harvest in this district is about completed. Some heavy yields are expected.. The e grain season brings to my mind- the irregularities in the train service oh this line. It is a common occurrence of late for the train to be an hour behind tinie, and what will it be in the busy season ? These delays are tantalising to the travelling community. The Presbyterian Church Court has accepted the tender of Mr Jos. Swap for the erection of the manse, and that of Mr R. Seattin for the stable and out-buildings. The designs were drawn by Messrs McKenzie and Gilbertson. The new buildings will be quite an ornament to our town. They will cost about £SOO. I understand Messrs McKenzie and Gilbertson are also about to prepare plans for additions to the Crown hotel. The new settlers across the Waiau are making serious complaints against the Government owing- to the treatment they are receiving. Their land is loaded on account of the proposed bridge, and they further have to pay 2s 6d if they only take lewt. across in the ferry boat, which - will be a very heavy tax and will no doubt retard settlement.
