SPORTING NOTES.
Names Claimed.
(By Silken .Rein)
A local owned colt by Thomond from Hushaby 3 has been named Prince Brian. Two other Levin owned Allies have been named Queen of the Orient and Raie d’Or. Both are by Star Stream from Glencoe Lass and a Vladimir mare respectively. , Carterton Review. The annual Axture of the Carterton Racing Club is the only North Island meeting to be held tomorrow. Good acceptances have been received by the club and interesting racing should result. Trial Plate. Masterton form should be a fairly reliable guide for this event. Pat’s Boy who had previously shown promise, ran second to Warzone in the Maiden Stakes division with Streamer, a nose away, in third berth. Ben Hur, Danc‘ng Star and Dueilma were runners at Treiitham and may do belter here but performances point to the winner coming from Streamer or Pat’s Boy. Carrington Highweight. On their Trenthani running Austerity and Tourist should be in demand in this race. The former, who was paying a good price to win, was only beaten by a head in the Tararua Hack while Tourist was placed second to Lucky Light on the opening day. Moepai who won a mile and a-quarter race on Monday at Waipawa is entitled to some consideration. Rasouli, ridden by 11. Gray, is reported to lave run a promising race at Trenthani and may be the dangerous one, but it is hard to go-past Austerity and Tourist. Wairarapa Cup.
The principal handicap has drawn thirteen runners with Rabbi in pride of place. On his Masterton and Wellington performances he ( should win but it is reported that he was lame after the race on Saturday. If he starts he will be ridden by 11. Gray. Atholspear is also engaged in two other races but the stable will probably look to Spearmiss to hold their end up in this event. Rouex by running third at Masterton showed that he may come back again Ramesis should be much improved by his racing at Treiitham, while Vesperus is due any time now. Discourse may be the surprise. Spearmiss beat Courageous at Masterton and the latter will meet her on 81bs better terms. Still the Greyepear mare is preferred and reads as the one likely to trouble Rabbi most.
Carterton Hack. They are not a very good lot that are due to contest this event and a number are also engaged in a later race. St. Melba, Shot Silk, Werata, Ben Hur and Dainty Ways have some form to recommend.them ard a preference will probably be shown on the machine for Werata and Shot Silk. Bunny Memorial. The appearance of Historic adds considerably to the interest in the meeting and he is due to take his place in this held. He is giving two stone an 1 over to the rest of the runners but ever a six furlong course it should not affect him. The distance may not quite suit him but the field is not a good one. Full Mark is the only recent winner, having scored on both days at Marton. Veronese may make it a fast race over the early part and that is the only thing likely to affect the topweight’s chance of winning. Tar&tahi Hack. A number of the runners due to face the starter in this race have also other engagements. Two who have paid up for this event only and whose form at Trentham bring them out in a favourable light ar: Royal Opera and Imateagirl. Maungaraki Handicap: A number of scratching 3 which are expected will reduce this Held, to a very small one. Atholspear, if started here, reads to possess a fairly good chance and in his possible absence Ramesis, if started, and Moutoa 'treasury are fancied. Electric Hack. The concluding race is full of possibilities but. on the strength of her Masterton win Banket will probably ■head the list of favouritism. If reserved for this race Werata is entitled to some consideration and cue who may surprise is Le Champ. Hunting Boy is also entitled to respect on his third to Banket and Clarendon at Masterton Le Champ and Hunting Boy may do best. Riding Engagement. The following riding engagements have been announced for Carte;ton: — H. Gray: Rabbi. T. Webster: Painting, Kiriana, Borsalene, Acredity and Imateagirl. K. Voilre: Dancing Slav, Patearoa and Vesperus. J. Procter: Balloon. T. Melcalfe: Plane and Ramesis. Odds and Ends. Coolmint (Catmint-Cool Lass'! has
been sold to an Austraban sportsman and was shipped to his new owner this week. Nominations for Levin meeting, close on Monday next. Handicaps will be declared on November Bth and acceptances are due a week later. Acceptances for the first day events of the C.J.C. Metropolitan meeting close on Monday next. Paitonu’s effort on the concluding day at Trentham suggests he will be ready for a middle distance shortly. He may add another Levin cup to his - record. The perfoimances of Seatown and Concentrate at Wellington meeting has brought them into favour for the N.Z. Cup next week. Zircon has been purchased by au Australian owner. - Havering is reported to me working well at 2-lawera and is expected to play a prominent part in the Steward!’* Handicap.
