SCHOOL PICNIC AT PLIMMERTON.

I AN ENJOYABLE OUTING. A dull-morning on Saturday did not give promise for ideal seaside weather, but despite this fact it did not deter the large number'of parents and children from taking part in the Shannon school excursion to Plimmerton. However, the picnickers had not journeyed far before the sun made its appearance, and beautiful sunshine prevailed, although at the same time there was a cool breeze, and bathers found the briny very cold. For half an hour before the train left the local station presented a busy scene. Finally, when the train pulled out,.she was carrying a total of 654 excursionists (net including iyotun|g 'childrem), afe .against 664 last year. The total was made up as follows, the figures in parenthesis being last year's:—Adults 280 (309), senior scholars 47 (30), children 327 (•325). The sum of £33 8s was paid out by the committee for the children's 'fares and in adition they provided hot water, milk, fruit and sweets, the money for this ' having been contributed by the public. On arrival at Plimmerton the excursionists sought out their camping spots and quickly set out to enjoy themselves; some bathing, other playing games and tramping over the hills, while one party went«*of£ by launch for a day's fishing, arriving back after the train had left "on the return. On the journey down a collection was taken up on the train towards prizes for races for the children, and as a result quite a nice little sum was raised, which enabled sports to be held, these creating a lot of interest both for children and adults. ;EixceMenl< arrangements had been ma*de for the outing by the committee. The children were under the control of the headmaster and teaching staff, and it is" pleasing to know they were conveyed to and from Plimmerton without the slightest mishap. The Children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was a tired but happy party that reached Shannon, shortly after six o'clock.
