MAKERUA SCHOOL PICNIC.

Under ideal weather conditions the Makerua School children accompanied by their parents, held their picnic at Foxtoii beach on Friday. This was the first occasion that they'.have held a picnic away from their own district and the innovation was such a success that it is hoped that in the future they will be able to make it an annual event. On arrival at the Beach the children, who were in charge of the headmaster (Mr F. H. Taylor) and the committee quickly set out t,o enjoy themselves. During ithe afternoon sports and swimming races were held, all of which drew keen competition. The arrangements.made by the committee were excellent "and they wish us to state that they are especially indebted to Mr J. Better, who kindly loaned his motor lorry free of charge to convey, the children to and from the Beach. The party arrived ;home at 6.3 U p.m. sunburnt and tired, but all were happy. In the evening a social and dance was held in the hall, which drew a large gathering, visitors being present from Palmerston North and' Shannon. The music was supplied by Mr and Mrs A. Judd, extras being played by Miss D. Hook and Mr R. Anderson. The night wasideal for dancing aud with a good floor and music, and a sumptuous supper provided by the ladies, the function was a fitting finale to an, enjoyable outing.
