SHANNON SCHOOL COMMITTEE

MONTHLY MEETING. The above meeting was held in the Schoolroom last evening. Present: The chairman (Mr A. E. Hyde) and Messrs A- Hill, A. Coates, W. Christian, A. Richards, G. Booker, C. Hensmann, T. Ingley and A. T. White (headmaster). MR WHITE TENDERS HIS RESIGNATION. In forwarding his resignation as headmaster of the School, Mr A. T. White stated that he desired to thank the Committees for their help given him during their term of office and also for the kind consideration and courtesy extended to him at all times. The chairman said he felt sure members were sorry to hear, Mr White was leaving. At the sam.c time all would be pleased to hear of his promotion. Personally, he thought it would be difficult, indeed to i eplace a man like him, as far as this school is concerned. However, it was pleasing to know Mr White had the ability to pass to a higher office. "We are sorry he is going, but at the same time we wish him success as master of the Carterton High School. We have no option •but to accept his resignation with regret," . " Mr W. Christian," in endorsing the Chairman's remarks, wished Mr White success in his new position, also congratulating him on nis promotion. Mr A. Coates, in wishing Mr White success, said he had always found him most obliging and realised he was a good teacher. He regretted his departure, but Avas pleased to hear of his promotion. Mr Richards, in expressing regret at losing Mr White, said Shannon's loss was "Carterton's gain. ■Mr White, in thanking the speakers for their, kind remarks, said that, it was an unfortunate part of the. service that a teacher to get promotion had to move on. Although it has been spoken of to get this position amended nothing has been done. At present, teachers have practically no chance of rising higher in the same school. He was sorry to go as he had lhad quite a good time. It had been hard work, but he had done his best which he trusted will meet with good results. It was with regret he was moving on. All commlttcois had given him a fair deal and he appreciated their action,. . GENERAL. A letter was received from the caretaker, Mrs Thomson, drawing attention to the extra cleaning of the school owing to the alterations to the building, also that she had to contend with the same last year and the year previous when painting was being done. She asked if the committee could see their way to allow her a little remuneration. —Resolved that the request be forwarded to the Board.
