BUTTER MARKET.
FAVOURABLE LONDON' REPORT
OPTIMISTIC FORECAST
AUCKLAND, Jan. 7. ' Amalgamated Dairies Ltd. to-day received a eablgraxn from their London manager stating that the butter market was firming, with ,no sales below 184 s pervcwt, while a further improvement was anticipated shortly. At this time last year. New Zealand butter was quoted in London at 160 s to / 162 s with exceptionally fine commanding 164 s per cwt. The dairy produce market was “quiet, .with little, demand, ’ ’ and a fortnight later butter had fallen to 152 s to 153 s per cwt and cheese was celling for 90s. Weight is given this optimistic forecast, by the situation t respecting stocks ■in 'Store. The estimated stocks in the
.public stores of the United Kingdom at tho end of December amounted to . 3?50 tons of' all butters, with " '6500 to'ns last yeai’V There .> were , 29,200 crates of cheese, compared 04,300 at the close of the previous 'year. The sime position obtains oft this ■side of the water; At the end of De- , cember the stoeks at Auckland were 20,000 boxes of butter less than at the ,r same time in the previous year, while ’ the amount of cheese held showed a * 40 per cent, decrease. .
