FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The first meeting of the Borough Council for the New Year was held m the Council Chambers „ evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr E. Butt) and Crs. T. C. Thwaites, R. Down'es, R. Skitrop, C.E., and consulting engineer to Ellis and Co. Ltd., stating that lit will be visiting Levin •between the 17th and . 21st inst. and will be . pleased to meet the Council and go into the* question ;with them in reference to his offer to give an estimate of the laying down the streets m Union : Asphalt (pure bitumen) to the same specification as that used by the Leva. Borough; his cervices being free to the company’s customers lhe letter states that the report and ' estimate does not in any way bind the Council, but would be useless if other material is used. ~ The Council decided to avail them-selves-of the offer and it was left, to the Mayor -and Town Clerk to arrange for a meeting with Mr Skitrop. if possible at the next ordinary meeting to the held om January 24th and if. this date is not convenient a special meeting to be called. - . HEALTH OFFICERS REPORT.' The, Inspector of Health (Mr J* Huggins) reported as follows:-— ‘ Infectious disease cases investigated, ml. Sanitary inspections: Habitations, 11; food sellers’ premises, 2; plumbing and drainage; 2. Two milk samples taken were satisfactory. He suggested trying out some of. the new tar on the footpath on the left side of Ballance Street and along the ljew path in Venn Street to the Catholic Church.
