CHILLED BEEF EXPORT
IWPR.OVKMENT IN QUALITY
Australian beef chilled by the Perfect Food Process recently arrived in Hull, 49 clays in transit. Although the beef was of plain quality and the consignment small, totalling 100 quarters and 50 crops, the experiment must be regarded as a success, as it appeared on Smithffbld market in very fair condition, with only the slightest traces of mould on the portions of the crops where the surface had been cut. The final marketing result of the meat in reported to give an average price of fi.OSd. per lb. wholesale for the hinds and 3.53 d. wholesale for the crops, -which in the circumstances must not be regarded as 100 unfavourable on a market that was not easy. The ruling prices oi .Argentine chilled beef on Smithfield market wore Oid. for hinds and '4Jd for crops. The previous three expcrimmts were made during the last two years in export of Australian beef under the Perfect chilling system. The first arrived in a partly desiccated condition, th e second too moi«t and with extensive mould traces and the third in a better marketable condition. ' The fourth arrival is an improvement on any of its predecessors.
