It would appear that all usual precautions wore taken in connection with this barricade. Hon. Ed. Newman—rflrain on road. — This matter was attended to on vNovomber 22nd and it was decided to share with Mr. Newman the cost of installing approximately 80 feet of 9in diameter earthenware pipe to’ effect necessary drainage. E. K. Vickers, Weraroa. —In company with Cr. Luke IVrawiti—request for culvert. —I have inspected the site of the proposed culvert which is the gateway t.o Mr. Perawiti’s property. Traffic through the gate has made the drainage boggy, but not so as to adversely affect the drainage of the main highway, which at this point is well above general ground level. In view, however, of the fact that the lessee of Mr. Perawiti’s property is prepared to pay for a eulvorit and to install same satisfactorily, I aiu prepared to recommend that he be supplied with a timber box culvert, 9in by Gin by 14ft, and that ho be allowed to install same satisfactorily, all costs to be borne by him.

Bartholomew Road metal pit—strippings.—A gang is at work in this pit spreading stripping over the floor of pit. The woyk is proceeding' satisfactorily.

J. Williams —request for right to cut flax near Hokio Beach Road. —Upon investigation it is found that, the halfchain strip of land, the subject of Mr. Williams' application, is not under the control of this Council.

Nuisance on Kingstone Road, Shannon. —I interviewed the occupier of the property concerned on November 23rd. L suggested to him that‘he 'should fb in the bad hole in front of his gate ami adjacent to the road metal, and gravel same; and lie agreed to get in touch with the owners, with a view to carrying out the improvement, suggested. Ranger’s report. —The County ranger, Mr. G. Watson, reports that since last period, the main and district roads have been clear of wandering stock, and consequently no impounding* have been effected. The Works Committee reeommendec. that the report be adopted with furthei tecommendations as under: —

“W. E. Oliver, Wellington—accident at Tokoinaru. —That Mr. Oliver he informed that this Council cannot accooany liability in respect to his claim. “Mr. L, Pern wit i—request for cu’ vert. —That a culvert be supplied :o Mr. Perawiti in accordance with tin terms of the engineer's icport. “Mr. J. Williams —right to cut flax on roadway. —That Mr. Williams he in formed that as the land over which h dr.-ires to have flax-cutting rights ir the vicinity of the Hokio Beach Road is not under the control of this Co'uu cil the desired permission cannot be given. , “Otaki River—Manakau stream sec tion. —That an approach to new tilling on the main road at Otaki Bridge b. constructed opposite River Bank Road, also that, pegs be put in to define tin intersection of the River Bank'Road.

“Mangaore Valley Road —bridge cu! lapsed. —That the engineer pia p.u > plans and estimates of alternative pro posa.ls for a new bridge either on tin site .of"the present arch culvert or 01 a site slightly above the present struc turc and involving a small deviation oi the existing road; and that provisioi be made in next year’s estimate for tin execution of whatever is considered tin better proposal. “Removal of spoil from Te Horr Beach Road. —That the clerk tain vhat ever action is necessary to re■•.over from the persons reported' to In responsible for excavating on the T< Hero Beach Road, the cost of repairing the damage done to the road.

“Ohau West Road Extension.—Tha tenders be called for the supply and dc 1 ivory of metal for this extension.”

The report, and recommendations were adopted.

General.

Cr. Ryder stated that the bitumen plant was at work, and, as far as he knew, was progressing satisfactorily. The groyne which had been put in on the Wait oh u stream had done good work, it required a little further attention, bul he would leave It until the dry weather.
