PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.
The quarterly meeting of the Horowhtjuia CountY Patriotic . Association was held on Wednesday afternoon, in the YM.C.A. ;oom, there being present: Messrs P. W. Goldsmith (in the chair), T. Clifford, R. G. McLean, J M. Richards, W. E. Kilsby, E, Butt, G. D. Hamilton, G. P. Catley, and Mrs T. F. Gibson? Leave of absence was granted to Messrs T.. Fraser, A. MeLeavey, C. S. Keedwell, and L. I. Howell. It was reported .by the secretary (Mr F. P. AValkley) that a cheque of £SO had been'received from the War Funds Council, to be distributed for the relief of unemployment, and £42 -os ot this has already been expended. _ • An application for a loan of £SO which was referred to another society, v was declined by that society, which,, however, made a grant to the applicant Some requests were received for e ctendon of time for the payment of loans, and were granted. All application for a loan of £6O was made by one who has already had a loan, and was declined. The sum of £l9 2s 6d was received during the quarter from various returned soldiers in repayments on loans. The Association decided to draw £l6o from the Public Trust investment for the purposes of distribution as needed.
