DEMPSEY'S PUNCH

WHAT THE CINEMA TELLS.

The'whole American Continent ap pears to be determined to continue the controversy over the world championship light. That amazing seventh round still holds the centre of the stage.

Dempsey realises that there is - but a feeble hope that he will get anyjwhere with his protest which has "been led by his manager but declined by the chairman of the Illinois Boxhng Commission. Dempsey promises to appear personally befor6 the com'mission who will listen to the princials only and not to their managers. Jimmy de Forest. Dempsey's former trainer, declares that Jack was dished out of victory by his own action.

"He knocked Tunney down,** says de Forest, "and then turned into tne nearest corner which happened to be his own. Dave Barry the referee, didn't notice this., and began to count oyer Tunney. After he had counted four someone yelled to him to chase Dempsey into a neutral corner. Barry turned and shoved Jack into the farthest corner, and then started counting all over again. ' .

I have seen the moving pictures and they show .conclusively and accurately that Ttranoy was down for. nine swings of the referee's arm, and did not rise from that position till then, and that he was actually rising at what would have been the tenth or "out" swing.

"Dempsey was badly handled by his seconds in, not being reminded to get into the farthest corner in the first second after the knock-down," Dempsey, himself, in an interview denies that he was groggy at any time during the battle;

"I saw after three rounds that Tunney was stacking up boxing points against me, and in the fourth I embraced the old trick of pretending to be all-in. I figured that Tunney might grow careless, and he did in the seventh round, and that was when 1 caught him," he says.

"When I saw Tunney on the floor I walked to my corner, five feet away from him. Nobody contends that I was trying to hit him when he was down."

• The pictures show absolutely that the time elapsing - during the count of nine was actually fourteen seconds and they also indicated that Tunney, had he been compelled to rise earlier than he did, probably would have wobbly and an easy target for a finishing wallop.

Is Dempsey finished or will there be a third chapter in the dc luxe feud with Tunney at Detroit for instance? Dempsey's friends believe that he has fought his last fight, and the former champion declared disgustedly to-day that he was through, but Tex Kickard will have much to say about that., V

Tex Rickard got talking to-night of what a lot of money there is still in the fight game for Dempsey, and that he i s still the greatest drawing-card in the ring. This, sounds like another match, and, Dempsey may reconsider his actress-wife's wishes that he should permanently retire. Tunney is ready foi*' another match. "Why shouldn't I fight him again? I can beat Dempsey every day in the week, and for a million dollars I'd fight anyone," he said. "This is business, big business, and personal feelings don't enter into It," he added apologetically.

"FIGHT ANYONE."

DEMPSEY GOES HUNTING.

Heartened by a very enthusiastic welcome, Jack De.mpsey arrived here and went into consultation with Tex Rickard about his future plans.

"I've changed ray, wife's mind and my own about fighting' again." de

■lared ni-mpsey, after the interview. He added, "I'm ready to tight Tunney or anyone else, anywhere, for whatever there may be in it. It wouldn't take me long- to get. ready."
