WOMAN TENOR.
BEATS TEN MALE RIVALS. JUDGE'S SURPRISE.' , LONDON, Nov. 18. The appearance at a tenor contest at Wadebridge (Cornwall( musical festival of Miss Hore astonished the adjudicator, Dr. Darke. He declared that he shut his eyes while she was singing in order that she would not be prejudiced. The best of her ten male rivals scored 82 points, while Miss Hore's rich, mellow voice was awarded 84. Dr. Drake, in awarding her the cup. for which the test piece was Coleridge Taylor's "Eleanor*?," said that_ he thought it was a men's competition. He had not expected a lady to sing, and it seemed incongruous that one lady should nvike love to another, although it was not h»r fault. She not only knew the right; feeling, bui controlled her feeling, he added. Miss Hore ihanked her rivals for the sporting way they had received her.
