MONTHLY'"MEETINa. '? The monthly meeting of the Shannon School Committee was held in the Schoolroom on Wednesday evening.. Present: The Chairman (Mr R L. Tip--pier) and Messrs J. H. .Roberts, C t Cronquest, W. Brown, J. Bowler, E. Butt, W. Lankshear, W. Christion and A. T. White (headmaster). Au apologv for absence owing to indispositionwas received from Mr. A. Blackwood. CONVEYANCE OF CHILDREN. , From Secretary of Wellington Education Board stating that Mr. C. Baird, : contractor for the conveyance of Man-"; gaore and Buckley road children to Shannon, has intimated that he wasnot prepared to continue the convey--: ance beyond March 25th, at the pre-. }«?nt rate of pay per day. The com-, mittee were asked to give the matter their urgent consideration, as it may b 0.% that with local knowledge a way out. of the difficulty can be suggested. The letter stated that the Board has triedy to meet the position to the limit of its ' financial ability. With regard to the . question of running the whole distance. it had pointed out to the eontractor that if the parents concerned " desire the whole distance travelled it is open to them to make a joint ar- . rangeraent with the contractor. Throughout°Ncw Zealand the Department does not necessarily undertake to convey.' the children the whole distance to their homes and it takes the view that if., the children are conveyed the greater . part of the distance they are on an * equal footing with those who have no. privilege *of conveyance at all. — Since - the. above letter was received a satis- - factory arrangement has been airived. at with the contractor, both as to rate ' of pay and distance children are to be conveyed. HEADMASTER'S REPORT. Mr A. T. White, reported that ther>* ,; had been an improvement in the attendance during the past month. The figures being 326, 328, 307 and 332, an ■ average of 320, which was one below - the number required for the School's, * grading. The poor attendance in the third week was owing to the wet weather and sickness and he had made application to the Board to have this ■■ term excluded from the yearly average. . GENERAL. It was resolv ed to' have the ladder in the playing area strengthentd in the centre by supports. Also that the ; ditch in the horse paddock be cleaned - OUt. •:" The headmaster reported that the - cork trees at the rear portion of thu - school grounds were making rapid growth'and should be cleared It was decided that it be a recommendation to the incoming committee to have this portion of the ground ■' cleaned up and ploughed. ,It was resolved to hold the final meet- - ing cf'-the Committee on Thursday " ovening, April 28th. '
