"THIS LITTLE TOWN."
AUCKLAND COMPARED WITH SYDNEY. AUCKLAND, April 2. A comparison of Auckland with Sydney produced a sl;ght diversion at :' sitting of the Water Commission ye> r.erday when a witness referred to Sydney 's water supply. "Surely you do not compare thL 'ittie town with Sydney?'' remarked Mr. Johnstone, who appeared for the Auckland City Council. "Let us get some sense of proportion. Auckland will grow in t ,imv, but Sydney is almost five times as large. It has a population or" over a million. " The witness: "This is not a litlb town. Generally you say, 'Come to ihis great and beautiful city.' Now vou say Auckland i<s a little town." Mi- Johnstone: That is what it is.
The witness: Yes, for the purpose of this inquiry. He added that the City Council's attitude in regarding Auckland as a little town had led local bodies to take up their present stand in connection with the water supply.
