COLLAPSE OF A HILL
A SPANISH MYSTERY. London, March 19. The Madrid correspondent of the Times reports an extraordinary occurrence near a village in the province of Cuenca. Shepherds standing in a field heard a noise like a thunderclap, and saw the crest of a hillock covered with olive trees sink into the earth. Creeping to the edge of the crater, which measured 50 yards across, they heard sounds as of falling water. They attempted to plumb the depth with a weighted rope, which was lowered 550 ft. without touching the bottom. The Mayor has appealed to the ' Government to send scientists to investigate the matter.
