NEW 1000-WATT STATION IN AUCKLAND

PROPOSED NEW "B" CLASS • ' BROADCASTER New Zealand will soon be enjoying; broadcasting from a modern 1000watt broadcasting station situated in Auckland, if the proposals of the Druleigh Business and Technical College (N.Z.) Ltd., are carried into effect. It s planned to erect and maintain a high-class broadcasting service on the lines of the "B" class stations, in Australia; that is, a broadcasting station giving entertainment or six or seven nights a Aveek at no cost whatever to the listener. The revenue of these stations is derived from the broadcasting of advertisements, about ton oh, fifteen minutes of each liou<boing set aside for this purpose. Should the Government grant permission for tho erection of this station in Auckland, and there is every reason for them to accede to a request which will ensure for the listener additional broadcasting without further cost, the Druleigh Business College (N.Z.) will proceed with the erection of the station at once, it Is understood. Already a site for the station and the offices of the company have been chosen at Tasman Buildings, Anzac Avenue, and a contract entered into with Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia) Ltd., to supply the necessary equipment for a broadcasting station putting 1000watts into the aerial, if permission is obtained, ■■ '": Tho Druleigh Business and Technical College of N.Z. Ltd., is an organisation brought into existence to carry on in the Dominion work of a similar character to that conducted for the past 46 years in Australia by the Druleigh Business and Technical College Pty. Ltd., Melbourne. The Australian organisation is equpped wth a highly-trained staff of tutorsv chiefly university men, and thousands of students throughout Ausk tralia are attached to the college. The new Auckland station would beconducted on the same lines as 1 YA. Auckland, but the service rendered the public would be an etirely free* service'and the public in no way contribute towards the cost of maintenance of the station.
