HOROWHENUA COUNTY COUNCIL
MARCH MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Horowhenua County Council was< held in the Municipal Chambers on Saturday, there being present: Crs. Monk (chairman). Whyte, Bryant, Kilsby, MeLeavey, Catley, Jensen, Ryder, and Barber, Mr F. H. Hudson (County Clerk), and Mr W. N. Anderson (County Engineer). Bulletin.' No. 1 on highway maintenance was received from the Main Highwavs Board. NATURAL GAS.
Professor C. C.' Farr, of Canterbury College, wrote asking for information as to the existence of any natural gas effusions in the district from which helium might be obtained. —Resolved to inform the writer that the Council was not aware of any natural gas outflows in this County. MOTOR REGISTRATIONS. Mr R. H. Ronayne, district engineer, Public Works Department, fowarded schedules showing the numbp - and classes of the various motor vehicles registered throughout the Highways Districts in the Dominion. —Received. DRIVERS’ LICENSES. Notification was" received from the Town Clerk, Levin, that ithe Borough Council had agreed to the County Coun-c-il licensing motor drivers resident within The borough for the ensuing year at a charge of 1/9 per license issued. —Received. PETROL BOWSERS. Mr. J. McDermott, District Telegraph Engineer, Wellington, wrote requesting that his Department be consulted before permission is given for petrol tanks to be installed under footpaths. —Agreed to. NOXIOUS WEEDS. In reply to the Council’s representations concerning noxious weeds growing on the 'Makerua Drainage Board’s banks, Mr. D. Fh-mming, Inspector of Stock, wrote stating that he expected to be in that part of the district shortly and would give the matter his at-tention.—-Received RAILWAY LAND. Mr. H. W. Beasley, District Engineer of Railways, Wanganui, wrote asking for information relative to railway land to be given up for road purposes at 70m. 46ch.. near Shannon. The Chairman said he understood that this matter was in hand and under way, but he would suggest that it be handed yver' to the Engineer with instructions to expedite it. The Clerk explained that the letter referred to a piece of railway land occupied by the County. The Engineer stated that the whole matter was being gone into at the present time. The survey was not complete. It was resolved that the letter be referred to the Engineer, with instructions to expedite the matter and have a transfer made. COMPLAINT OF TRESPASS. Mr. R. L. Tippler, of Shannon, wrote complaining that a gang of men, workifig in I ‘front of his property, on the Main Road, were trepassing on his plantation, with resultant damage to fences—Referred, to the engineer, with instructions- to see that the nuisance is abated. The Hokio Drainage Board forwarded its application ’for the Council’s share of the cost.of the Hokio stream improvement and maintenance. The Engineer was* instructed to report to the Clerk as to what amount had been spent during the year on the stream, and thjit the balance be paid before the end of the financial year. PAYMENT OF ACCOUNTS. On the motion of the Chairman, it was resolved that all accounts due by the Council lie paid prior to March 31st (the end of the financial year), and submitted for confirmation to the April meeting of the Council..
