"OBLIGING 'UM"

ILLEGAL TRADING AT FOXTON. At the Foxton S.M. Court, before Mr. J. L. Stout, 5.M.,. the Inspector of Factories proceeded against Joe Bing, late fruiterer and confectioner, of Foxton, for failing to observe the Statutory half holiday. Inspectors Davies and Lowden gave evidence as to the shop having been kept open on Wednesday, 15th December and as to having purchased cigarettes from defendant the following day, thus proving that he kept cigarettes and should therefore have closed forhalf a day on Wednesday. Asked if he had anything to say, defendant admitted being open but said he did not' stock cigarettes. He had purchased a few packets from the hotel and just sold them to -customers to '' oblige 'urn.'' The S.M.: "Well, you will be fined £1 with costs 10s for "obliging 'urn."
