AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE.
GOING RIGHT* AHEAD WITH SCHEME AUCKLAND, Last Night. In order to make sure that all preliminary expenditure might fit in with the ultimate development of the college, it was decided to ask Mr. Roy Lippincourt, architect of the Auckland University College, to prepare, in consultation with a representative of the Research Board and with officers of the Agricultural Department, a lay-out plan for a comprehensive scheme of building and grounds for the gradual development of .an agricultural college on the * Palmerston North site. Such plan to be available for the consideration of the Council at its next meeting. In a communication to the Ministei of- Agriculture giving the decisions ol the Council of the New Zealand College of Agriculture, the Hon. Q. Fowlds, chairman of Council, says:- • "The Council decides to record its concurrence with the view that the Research Board should be considered the controlling authority in New Zealand and should direct the research and administer its funds through the existing organisations and institutions. The College of Agriculture will naturally become one of the important institutions taking part in this research work. It was recognised that in all the preliminary organisations work of the College the advice and assistance of Professors Peren and Riddet would be essential, and so it was resolved to ask Victoria and Auckland University Colleges to allow this Council the use of the services of Professors Peren and Riddet for 1927 for the advice and collaboration in matters affecting the general lay-out and completion of such establishment as may be agreed on by the Council. If the colleges agree to the foregoing, then this council is prepared to consider applications from the Victoria University College and the Auckland University College to teach students at Palmerston North. At a later stage of the proceedings, It was decided that the chairman be authorised to grant permission for such teaching, but only in those subjects that are covered by teaching and research connected with the dairying Industry and matters directly bearing upon it as set out in the Prime Mini, ster's statement. It was decided that the chairman should confer with the Minister ol Agriculture with a view of arranging a conference between the Council, the Minister, and the Board of Governors of Lincoln College in order to avoid an unnecessary delay in organising the work set out in the Prime Minister's statement; It was resolved that in order to provide for the early establishment ol instrumental, experimental and research work in the - principles and practice of dairying (including dairyfarming and dairy manufactures) in connection with the College, Professors Peren and Riddet be requested to formulate and submit to the Council at Its next meeting a full scheme providing for (a), Hie acquiring of the necessary live-stock.
