NO COUNTY MAP.
AN EXPENSIVE NEED. i QUESTION OP BIDING V BOUNDAEIES. . "if When a matter of repairs to the Ko- .. putaroa floodgate was under consideration at the Horcv. henua County Counoil meeting on Saturday, Cr. Kilsby asked where the boundary was between the v Wirokino and Tokomaru ridings. He . said that the Koputaroa floodgate seem- * ed to be in the Tokomaru riding. The >- Council had granted £75 for work done ■ there, and the cost was divided be- > tween the two ridings. As the work 4 was carried, out in the Tokomaru riding, he would like to know where the boundary was. *■ The chairman stated that practically-J the whole of the stream was in the m "Wirokino riding. I Or. Kilsby said he would like to see * a sketch plan drawn showing the j. boundary. The chairman: We are very much hi want of a County map; but it would > cost three or four hundred pounds to ; i make it, and wc have to do without it f ■at present. We have no riding plans. This is a thing that the Council will have to face very soon. We will into it. again and see if we can find a description. * Or. Whyte said he was under the impression that aa agreement was arrived at that Wirokino would pay for the , control of the floodgate. Cr. Kilsby moved, and Cr. McLeavey ' seconded, that a plan of the boundary of the Wirokino and Tokomaru ridings be secured, showing a defined line. The chairman: If you are going to have a plan, it will cost from £l5O to £2OO. Cr. McLeavey: We don't want that. The Chairman: We want to know what you do want. We want a plan—it is very necessary. The engineer (Mr. Anderson) stated that the Council could have a search - made in Wellington. The Council had previously sent to a man there who was right in touch with such things, and it had paid them to do so. They were terribly handicapped through not having a map of the County. It would be a big map, and would take months to compile. Cr. Kilsby: I want a plan of a boundary, line, to show the sections and whether the boundary crosses them or follows them round. The chairman: If you are going to_have two ridings done, we shall want the other two also. If I could see any good reason for it, I would support it; but if it is only to see whether the floodgate is in one riding or the other, I cannot see that it is justified at this juncture. There has had to be a mutual arrangement between the rep re* sentatives of the two ridings as far as , the drainage of those ridings is concerned. The floodgate was put up not for the benefit of the Buckley Drainage Board, but for the Koputaroa drainage area. Cr. Catley: It would be very nice to have it, but what is the cost? The engineer: It will cost £lO or £l2 to get the information. Cr. Barber: What length of stream would that define? The engineer: Back to the range. Cr. Barber: You eou}d not get that for £lO. The engineer: No; perhaps £SO. Cr. McLeavey: lam not in favour of spending a lot of money on it. • The chairman: It is no good having a partial boundary. Cr. Barber: What is the length from the river to the Masterton County boundary? The chairman: Six miles. The motion was lost on the voices. Subsequently Cr. McLeavey asked if the boundaries between -the different counties were defined. The chairman: We had an alteration of the back boundaries of recent years between the various counties and an alteration of the southern boundary and a-partial alteration of the northern boundary.
