FRENCH NEWSPAPER BANNED.
ABSENCE OF RESPECT FOR PAPAL AUTHORITY. PARIS, January 9. ' The Pope is charging the Royalisi daily newspaper "L 'Action Francaise,' ■' with absence of respect for the Papal authority and an attitude of revolt and scorn for the truth. / He has placed the ,n'ewspaper and certain works of the editor, M. Maurras, upon the Index Liborum Expurgandorum. The Pope recalls that Pope Pius X. decided to ban the newspaper, but postponed action. He is now enforcing the ban owing to criticisms of the Pope's approval of France's peace policy conveyed to M. Doumergue on January Ist. (The Index Liborum Expurgaiulorun;. is a catalogue published by Papal authority in the Roman Church of books the reading of which is prohibited to numbers of that church, whether on doctrinal, moral or religious grounds.)
