HOUSE FIRE AT AUCKLAND.
CHILDREN’S NARROW ESCAPE. / \ AUCKLAND, May 6. A five-roomed house at Mt- Roskill, owned and occupied by Mrs Stone, was burnt at 1 o’clock this morning. Three rooms were gutted. Two children, aged three and four years, were asleep when a neighbour, Mr R. H. Wood, crawled through the smoke to their bedroom, wrapped them in a sheet, and carried them to his home safely.
COUNTRY STORE BURNT.
GISBORNE, May 6. Th,e Tuparoa Trading CO.’s store, and the post office and residence combined at 1 Tuparoa, was destroyed early this morning by fire, which originated in the store and spread to the roof of file post office fifty yards distant. Very little was saved.
CHELTENHAM HOTEL BURNT.
FEUDING, May 6. Hotel premises at Cheltenham, nine miles from Feilding, were totally-des-troyed by fire at 3 o’clock this morning. The occupants had a . narrow escape. Nothing was saved. .The building was of 15 rooms and was formerly owned by the Riddiford Estate. -The present owner’s name is not available. The licensee was'Mr T. Sim.
