ORDER FOR A WIFE

A romance which started at the Empire Exhibition ended in wedding bells at Saskatoon Cathedral, Canada recently, where a Devonshire girl was married to a Canadian whom she first saw three days previously. Some time ago Mr William Stapleton, representative of the Canadian National Railways at Wembley, announced that he had received three applications for wives from Canada. A pretty Devonshire girl persuaded him to alter his determination not to accept so great a responsibility and he wrote to the most eligible of his applicants enclosing a photograph of the would-be bride. He received a message. "Sure, come along,” and an express order covering the girl’s passage to Canada. The girl duly left for Canada, and when a cablegram announcing the -marriage was received by Mr Stapleton he remarked: "Never again. The responsibility is too great.”
